And what a long-winded post title.

I roughly copied this post title from a quote by Jason from the Foxtrot comics. It was in reference to Thanksgiving, which is a reference to today. For Thanksgiving dinner, I went to my cousins’ house. We had some food, including turkey.

Our turkey was massive, spelled with a capital M (not pictured). My grandparents had been entitled to one turkey each, even though we could only eat one anyways. So we ended up with a lot of turkey and 馄饨. Although truth be told, 馄饨 is not traditionally a part of a Thanksgiving dinner. But I’m Asian, so I really don’t care.

During this Thanksgiving dinner, I also learned a lot about my younger cousin.

He has a massive Lego collection. And when I say “massive,” I mean that he probably has more Lego’s than Toys R Us. He built this entire city, complete with hotels and restaurants, and people inside the buildings. It was crazy.

I also managed to confirm something I had always suspected. Little kids aren’t as innocent as we’d like them to be. At the pool, I’d get lectured for cussing, because it would apparently corrupt the cute little fourth graders splashing nearby. Yeah, the same fourth graders who already know what a transvestite is. I’m not going to go into the exact details, but a certain incident during the Thanksgiving dinner allowed me to reach my conclusion.

As I walked away from my cousins’ house, stomach bursting with turkey, I counted on three fingers the things I had learned.

1. Kids aren’t as dumb as they look.

2. You can never have too many Lego’s.

3. You can certainly eat too much turkey.

All things must come to an end, and such was the case with my first term at my new school. (Notice that this post does not have a video, since most of you wanted me to refund your 35 seconds). This meant that I had to get back to my house somehow, because the school didn’t want to have to deal with me for another ten days.

Luckily for me, my parents had purchased an airplane ticket, so a majority of the distance between the East coast (where I was) and the West coast (where I needed to get to) was solved by the airplane. However, I still needed to get from my school onto the plane, which provided some difficulties.

My school graciously offered a shuttle to take us from the campus to the nearest airport, but when I went to the Student Activity Office, it turned out that a one-way ticket cost $35, so that if I wanted to return to school when the break was over, it would cost $70 in total. Which is kind of weird, because I’m a student at their school, and they don’t even feel like offering free shuttle services to the airport.

True to my Asian heritage, I decided to take the train instead (which saved me about $18). However, there was no direct service between my school and the airport, so I ended up switching between walking, the Amtrack, and the T. It was my first time on a train in America, so I was pretty excited. I was also fairly confident that I ended up with a lot more leg room than the suckers who took the bus.

Surprisingly, rushing to the various stations I had to be at was pretty exciting. I liked buying tickets and pretending I was a responsible person. But I’m not really that responsible. When I managed to somehow get to the airport without dying, I was a little bit early. So I settled down for some heartening McDonalds, and then went to my gate.

Then I fell asleep. I woke of groggily a few times, and then went back to sleep. One time, I woke up, looked around, and thought, “Haha, everybody left. Now I can plug my computer in and use it.”

Wait.

Everybody left?

I was kind of screwed. Luckily, as I sprung up from my seat, I turned around and saw a line of people boarding the plane. I was in boarding group 2, and they were already boarding group 4. But luckily, I still made it onto the plane, because I’m writing this post from the West coast. Yay.

As my interest in football increases, I’ve begun watching more TV.

And with more TV comes more commercials.

Two recent commercials have caught my eye. The first is the Red Baron Fire Baked Crust Pizza commercial, and the other is the Bud Light Condiment Gun.

I’ll start with the Red Baron commercial. First off, I’d like to note that this is the first and only ad I’ve ever seen for a single product in a food line.

But that’s not even the interesting part.

I’d embed the video for you to watch, but I can’t find it on Youtube. But what I can tell you is that it is epic on the order of Head-On. If you haven’t seen Head-On, I’ll embed that later on.

Back to business though. I’ll get straight to the point now. The advertisement uses the words “fire baked” 5 times and the word “pizzeria” 6 times, in the short span of about a minute.

If you don’t understand the gravity of those numbers, I’ll crunch them a bit. The commercial includes a good amount of silence, earning about 75 words. That means the word “pizzeria” was used in the commercial more commonly than the letter “a” in this sentence.

But it’s still beaten in repetitiveness by Spongebob.

The other one, the Condiment Gun commercial, actually has nothing to do with beer, Bud Light’s main product. Although it is more hilarious than any beer ad I’ve ever seen.

“Ever have trouble getting those condiments on your hot dog? Well I sure do!”

It makes me wonder what they do at tailgates if this is “tailgate approved.” The only tailgate I’ve been to was quite mild, hosted by my school.

Something happened to me today. I felt like it was interesting enough to be included on this blog, but I really didn’t want to have to type stuff up (like I’m doing now). So, I decided to try something new: YouTube! Check it out, and let me know what you think.

I know in Britain they might call it ultimium, but in any case it’s Thanksgiving break, which invariably accompanies a sense of finality. Although the REAL end (finals) are a full two weeks after the break, the first week-long break is still something to look forward to.

It’s been a slow last day, though.

Don’t you just hate it when the traffic light turns green, but the line is so long that it’s red before you cross? Well, I do. Especially when it happens 3 times in a row on the way to school.

From then, I knew it was going to be a long day.

Often, my intuition is wrong. The day went by remarkably quickly (and uneventfully).

And so the end of the day came, with the much-anticipated two-month-late birthday party of my friend’s.

Remember how I felt that sense of finality at the start of the day? Well, it turned quite eerie when I found out the movie we were watching as a party was 2012.

On the whole, 2012 was just decent. I found I could not stop laughing throughout the first part, the second part was nice and dramatic, and the third part was too slow and made less than little sense.

Seriously though, how can you NOT laugh when you see a plane flying by a smoke cloud when suddenly a TRAIN flies out of the smoke cloud?

Now that I think about it, the movie’s second part may have been a little too dramatic. Literally every time a character conquered an obstacle, some alarm decides to go off and the line “You might want to take a look at this” is repeated in some variation.

And the entire third scene had impeccably flawed timing and scenario. First off, on a trillion-dollar megaship, a single drill manages to stop the turbine from spinning at all. A man and a woman survive underwater for two minutes. And last but not least, the second emergency flood control gate decides to close 10 times as slowly as the first one.

Finally, the movie was riddled with factual inaccuracies (although they did include some solidly researched details, such as neutrino detectors). A TV screen clearly shows the destruction of the earth interrupting the Olympics.

Wait. The Mayan calendar ends on December 21st. And the Olympics take place during August. Something doesn’t seem right here.

Perhaps 2012 really wasn’t too great after all. Or maybe I’m just being negative again.

I would also talk about the hilarious discussion and dinner that followed the movie, but I don’t remember any of it because the sheer amount of laughter damaged my memory. I sincerely apologize.

One last thing: Now that baseball season’s over, I’ve started watching football. It’s much less complex than I thought it was, which is good. Although in 4 games I’ve watched, I’ve seen 2 ridiculously bad decisions made, and that makes me sad.

And that’s it.

Today there was an Unofficial Gathering of People of Chinese Descent/Heritage (abbreviated as UGPCDH). We had a lot of legitimate Chinese food, more so than all the Chine food I’d had in the past few months. We had some 肉包子, 烧饼, and 豆浆. It was very nice. In addition, the host has some 大白兔 candies, but there was a conundrum: they were too hard. My solution: microwave them for 13 seconds. Everybody else was skeptic, but it worked, and soon, everybody else was microwaving their candies too.

Today was Exeter-Andover (EA) day. It’s when Andover and Exeter students and alumni get together on the same campus. This year, it was at the Exeter campus, and it usually alternates. On this day, the alumni have a chance to come back and visit Exeter, and all the sports teams play each other. However, the most exciting sports event is always the football game.

Things don’t look good for us, historically. In the 132 years of Exeter-Andover football rivalry, Andover has won 68 games, Exeter has won 50 games, and they’re tied 10 times. However, this year, we demolished them.

It was pouring during the football game. I’m not kidding. My shoes were drenched, and there were puddles in my socks. My feet were miserable (I think I have trench foot now). Two out of the four football captains are in Knight House (my dorm), so there was absolutely no reason for anybody in Knight House not to go (except for illnesses). In addition, we had the running back and quarter back in Knight House.

I won’t go in to too much detail about football stuffs, but our running back scored 31 touchdowns this season (he’s an absolute beast).

There were some pretty interesting things that the spirit-rallying people tried to get the crowd to chant.

Pork chop, pork chop, greasy, greasy! Andover girls are easy, easy!

I say “Big,” you say “Red!” Big! Red!

Why so quiet?

Yes! Yes! We’ve got spirit, how about you? (This one went back and forth, sort of like a dialogue.)

In addition, there was a non-verbal rollercoaster cheer. It’s hard to describe, but imagine everybody in the bleachers pretending to be on a rollercoaster. Hands up in the air (like at the peak of a wave), and then, at the spirit peoples’ discretion, we would all swing our hands to one side (imitating a turn on the ride).

But anyways, it has a good game. Andover scored twice during the first half, and I left during half-time because it was so bloody cold. After I left, Andover didn’t score again, and so we obviously beat them.

Last night (or this morning, I’m not quite sure), I dreamed that it was raining very hard. And I had to get to my history class.

My history class is usually in a building, but in my dream, it was on the room of a building, reachable only by a certain set of stairs.

Now, it was raining pretty damn hard, so the entire school was flooded, all the way up the stairs to the roof.

Half the school must have been inundated, but this was in a dream, so it didn’t matter. I was standing on a ledge just below the stairs, and I watched the rainwater go up and down the stairs like the tide.

Eventually, it receded just enough for me to make a leap, and make it onto the stairs.

I had successfully made it to history class, although I hope getting to history class today won’t be that hard.

As part of the Crew Halloween party, we were each assigned a partner. With said partner, we were to design a collaborative and somewhat themed costume.

My partner is a girl. Her name is not Xavier.

Xavier came up with the brilliant plan. She would dress up as a lawyer, and I would be the car crash victim. It was absolutely genius.

The only problem was, we needed some paint and a plain white tee. Our plan was to get to Walgreens and pick up some of the stuff.

Did I mention that it was absolutely pouring today? Well, it was. My shoes and pants were completely drenched by the time we got into Walgreens.

While we were there, we failed miserably at finding a tee shirt and some paint. However, we did find some styrofoam swords and we had this epic sword fight. And then we tried on some outrageous Halloween costumes, and then pressed all the buttons on the “Try Me!” dancing models.

While we were checking out, I noticed an entire rack of magazines, more than half of which were for girls. I asked her about the differences between each magazine. I shouldn’t have.

We ended our hour-long trip with a 99 cent bottle of fake blood.

As of right now, my brother is watching a hi-def version of National Treasure 2 next to me, I’m still digesting the tiniest cucumber I’ve ever eaten, and I’m reminiscing about a pack of Smarties which was quite unusual.

Really not much has happened over the last week, but I’ll piece together a post anyway.

First and foremost, I’ve started using Facebook more actively. For those of you that know how allergic I was to Myspace two years ago, this might come as a bit of a shock. Just know I hated Myspace about as much as I currently hate bad soap operas, such as the one playing on the TV in front of me.

I have to say, the new news feed is confusing. The News Feed isn’t news, and the Live Feed isn’t live, although the Live Feed definitely comes closer to its goal. Its definition of live is about one update per five minutes, even if 60 people write in status about the world ending in one minute. The News Feed is full of old news. Specifically, it’s been trimmed so it only includes day-old updates. I don’t want to see day-old updates because, chances are, I already have.

However, that doesn’t account for the fact that I’ve already seen 5 utterly distinct groups saying the same thing: Bring back the old news feed. Some of my friends are members of 3 or 4 of them. I think it’s overkill.

Next, this week. I got back home today to boast to a friend about getting home at 2:00 as per the odd schedules of the week. Turns out, he didn’t even have school today (you know who you are).

This week, my average release time from school is 2:05, which is earlier than when I was in elementary school. Pretty impressive. I like it.

Finally, I’ve actually found a pillow I like. Maybe this will cure my chronic insomnia.

I actually do have chronic insomnia, despite the fact that I go to bed around 10:30 (I see raised eyebrows out there). If it weren’t for my utter lack of the ability to focus on sleeping, I would go to bed at 9:30. That would stop me from sleeping during the school day (not that I do that or anything).
